A very sweet listener reached out and suggested an open thread. She wrote:
“I was just thinking about how much I crave an IRL community of mothers/thinkers/activists/creators—the kind of folks who make up your audience! Have you ever considered doing some kind of open thread where subscribers post their location and connect with one another directly? I just have this feeling that anyone listening to your podcast is someone I want to be friends with.”
Same, friend! Same. A lot of you are listening to the show (hey, thanks for that!) and we want to hear from you as much as you hear from us. And not just in a “wow we’re supposed to grow our audience by engaging with them” way — no, Sarah and I just like to talk with other moms and parents. We know you’re out there!
SO, let’s get to know each other! Some prompts on this dreary December day:
Where are you, geographically?
How old are your kids?
How many colds have you had this school year so far? and
Part II: What weird things do you do to avoid catching all the snotty diseases your sweet, snotty vectors bring home from school?
I’ll go first.

None….? Which I am superstitiously nervous to say out loud. The kids have had lots of little gross nose moments, but no fevers yet.
OK, it’s getting weirder as I get older, but I use a neti pot (hypertonic solution when I feel like they’re really bringing gross stuff home, isotonic when it’s just a regular cold season day). I swear lymphatic drainage stuff from yoga (I am not a doctor) is helping me stay healthy or it’s a placebo either way it’s working so far. Zicam gummies at random intervals. Body weight in tea.
Miranda you know I like the squeeze bottle! When I'm my best self. I do it preventively and I even bought some fancy salts from the herb/witch store!
I'm in Massachusetts. My kids are 6 and 3. I have never used a Neti pot -- saline nasal spray is my go-to!
