The Rotten Roots of Modern Parenting Advice with Nancy Reddy

Cross-post from The Mother Of It All
This latest episode of my podcast, The Mother of it All, is so up Momspreading readers' alleys that I had to share. Nancy Reddy has this to say about the psychologists whose work still greatly shapes what we think about good parenting: "They traveled. They gave speeches, they gave interviews, they were quoted in women's magazines. But I don't know, with the exception of Spock, that they really listened to any of the women that they talked to, and they certainly didn't listen to the women their wives who were raising their children." Let me know what you think, and if you're into it, sign up for the pod so you get new episodes! -

Poet and author Nancy Reddy joins us to discuss her forthcoming book, The Good Mother Myth: Unlearning Our Bad Ideas About How to Be a Good Mom (pre-order it now!). In it, Nancy explores the historical, cultural, and scientific roots of many of our modern ideas about ‘goodness’ + motherhood, like attachment parenting. Spoiler alert: they’re pretty sketchy.
