ALL HAIL THE QUEEN OF BOOKS!!

Yes! I’ve been screaming this for years. Now I just gift this book to new moms.

I love that, brings up an interesting tension that I often feel. Does a new mom want to read this? I want her to see the scope of things but I worry will she be overwhelmed? Validated?

Totally, I’ve had friends tell me that they attempted it newly postpartum and found it to be too much, but then rediscovered later. I guess I was so validated by it that it feels worth the risk that someone may be turned off.

We did tell you how good it was.

I had a dad-friend read it and he was like “are you okay” hahaha

Loved this book so much ! Been doing some research for a project I’m working on and found this image (from The Story of Art Without Men) called Dog Woman by Paula Rego. I can’t remember if she mentioned that painting in the book but it fully encapsulates NightBitch

Ooooh fascinating! Now I'm falling down a new rabbit hole. Thank you for this!

Very intrigued by that title!

It is SO GOOD. I read it a couple of years ago and still think about it, absolutely brilliant. I’m so thankful we’re publishing moms now :).

I tried to read it like 4 months postpartum and it was too raw and scary (or maybe I was still too raw and scary) so I didn’t finish. Maybe it’s worth picking up again.

Oh yes! I meant to add that part of the reason I was so late to this party was that I had a baby in 2021 and was not ready to read this book until now (that baby is nearly 3).

It takes me many years to catch up on things, I am like a decade behind in popular books. So I guess I need to add it to the TBR?

Expand full comment

Yes same! Never too late :)

This book is so goddamn good. I literally just finished it. The weirdest and wildest book and I could not put it down. I would like to enter the brain of Rachel Yoder for a week. I mean i guess that's what I did with this book, but like full time. lol

I was an evangelist for it when it came out and still am. I think All Fours is its sister and there is so much overlapping there. I agree that she just nailed the toddler mom who wants to create situation. 10/10. No notes. Have you read Motherhood by Sheila Heti?

Expand full comment

that makes sense! and I haven't read Motherhood yet, but been on my shelf just waiting, along with All Fours. Now I just have to pick one and dig in!
