OK, I'll start: I don't want to spoil next week's episode, but TLDR I am slightly nervous about this movie. CAN IT POSSIBLY LIVE UP TO RACHEL'S GORGEOUS BOOK?
The trailer made me super excited honestly. I was worried before it came out for the same reasons you are Miranda and Veronica. And that's still in the back of my mind. But IDK, I feel like it'll be super fun to watch regardless. I just need to set aside my high expectations and accept that the movie will never be the book. But I am most definitely going to see this in the theater with other mom friends!
I'm concerned about how the magic will weave itself onto the screen. I'm already heavily critiquing the canine choices (Nightbitch needing Rachel Yoder's face aside). So, I'm simultaneously very excited and very worried about the movie, but only because I love the book so much.
So excited about this film! 🥩🐕 First thoughts: agree with all of the above that I’m generally always disappointed by film adaptions of books I love because they can never capture the interiority of the characters in the same way. But I think Amy Adams can do no wrong, and actually I saw the teaser poster before I read the book so I had her face in my head while reading it!
My only concern is that the tone seems a little all over the place, but that might just be the trailer. At the beginning it’s giving kind of a campy “Bad Moms” vibe, and it seems to be pitching it as a comedy? The book is definitely funny but the humor is dark and ironic, not campy like this (might) seem. Some shots in the trailer really seem to capture the gothic, brutal intensity I loved about the book. We shall see!
I read the book pre-movie poster and Amy Adams (at least in this costuming) is not what I pictured at all. Or maybe I visualized the character look more “cool artist mom” than she was actually described.
Oh no! Visually I hate it. In my mind this woman's fantasy moments should be more magical and colorful (especially at night) and less... Mean Girlsy? I realize this is the blockbuster version of Nightbitch, but I would rather see the A24 version.

Definitely! I'm for sure not going to miss opening night.
Should we have a premiere party?
obviously yes 1000000%

Yes! I always forget how hard it is to manage movie expectations when I love a book like this.

Haha we talked about Bad Moms in the episode we just recorded on this. So true.

I'm with you! I was picturing, like, young Miranda July
same! I love amy adams so much, but she's not what i pictured. Very curious if she pulls it off!
I was too postpartum to read this when it came out, but I am going to before I see the movie! I love Amy Adams!!!
Uh yes, same! I had to wait 3 years to be ready to read it (and even then, thorny!). I bet you're ready!
Why does it feel like a comedy to me? I didn’t feel like that was the main vibe of the book.
Yeah! Some slight Bad Moms vibes? But I am hoping this is just the trailer.
Way too excited!

omggg the A24. I don't even know if I want it, but to meet the vibe of the book it needs 30% more Yorgos energy maybe?
